Meet RØZ, the Mexican Duo Taking EDM Sounds to the Next Level

RØZ, the Mexican electronic music duo consisting of Manolo Cabrera and Hugo Lara, is rapidly gaining recognition in the music industry. Their recent performances have sold out venues, including a notable show at the Auditorio Telmex in Guadalajara on October 14, 2023, which attracted over 3,000 fans.

This duo’s rise is significant, especially within the electronic dance music (EDM) scene, which has steadily gained popularity in Latin America. Previously, the electronic genre has seen similar growth, particularly with artists like J Balvin and Maluma incorporating EDM elements into their music beginning around 2015.

RØZ gained substantial attention following their collaboration with Peso Pluma on the track "La Boda" in September 2023. The single quickly garnered over 10 million streams on Spotify within the first month of its release. Such collaborations showcase how traditional Latin sounds are merging with contemporary electronic beats.

Industry sources confirm this trend aligns with a broader movement where traditional genres mix with EDM elements. In 2022, Mexican DJ and producer Alan Walker saw similar success by fusing regional sounds with electronic music.

In terms of awards, RØZ is expected to be contenders for the Latin Grammy Awards in 2024, particularly for Best New Artist. Their innovative blends of styles reflect a significant shift in music consumption among younger audiences, further evidenced by Taylor Swift’s recent pivot to more electronic elements in her albums.

RØZ's management has hinted at a North American tour planned for early 2024, with dates to be announced shortly. Previously, they opened for international acts such as Major Lazer, helping them build a robust following.

Manolo Cabrera stated in a recent interview, "We want to push the boundaries of electronic music by incorporating elements from our culture." This sentiment mirrors the actions of fellow Mexican artist Sofía Reyes, known for her cross-genre collaborations.

With their growing presence in EDM, RØZ is not only impacting music charts but also inspiring a new wave of artists. Looking ahead to 2024, their efforts may significantly influence the future landscape of Latin EDM.
