Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and American Dad, hit the jackpot and a well-deserved salary for all of his hardwork. $100 million and creative control didn’t come easily and there was a lot of time, energy and partience involved, but he is now the perfect example of hard work and dedication getting you to the top.
It started ten years ago when driven to take ideas from his thesis and its sequel to Fox fresh out of college. The network and 20th TV perked up after they saw the animated comedy and offered $50,000 for a presentation.
Working long days and nights for six months, doing almost all the animation, the young Seth Macfarlane had created Family Guy. At 24-years-old, Macfarlane became the youngest executive producer/showrunner ever.
Seth has always been a faithfull man to 20th Century Fox TV, sticking with them through multiple contracts seeing successfull and failed attempts at shows. His recent contract had been expired, but after 2 1/2 years of negotiations Macfarlane is walking away as one of the highest-paid writer-producer in working television.
Estimated to be worth more than $100 million, according to Hollywood Reporter, and the contract will keep Seth at 20th TV through 1012. So all Family Guy and American Dad lovers will continue to enjoy these witty comedies for another 4 years. There is also going to be a Spinoff of Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, coming soon.
No one has confirmed the exact amount of the new agreement, but Macfarlane said to the Hollywood Reporter, “I get a lot of pleasure out of making shows. It’s a bonus to be getting paid well for it, and it’s a double bonus to be getting paid exorbitantly for it.” It’s supposed to have surpassed J.J. Abrams’ $60 million deal with Paramount Pictures and Warner Brothers. The 20th TV chairman Dana Walden only said, “no one will ever have to offer Seth a handout of any kind.”
It’s always good to see a true success story, where hard work really does pay off in the end. Congrats to you, Seth Macfarlane!
