What an exciting opening weekend for Iron Man! Paramount and Marvel Studios’ newest release was a huge success receiving one of the highest opening weekends ever grossing an estimated $104 million domestically and a worldwide total of $201 million in its first five days.
It’s officially time for summer with the first successfull summer blockbuster of the year. Iron Man, starring Robert Downey Jr. and directed by Jon Favreau, opened with the “10th best opening weekend ever, and the second-best debut for a non-sequel after Spider-Man, which opened to $114.8 million on the same weekend in 2002,” stated Variety.
Coming in second for the weekend was the romantic comedy Made of Honor starring Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan with an estimated $15.5 million. That’s kind of funny that between first and second place in the box office there was nearly a $90 million difference in the grossing amount. I wonder if Patrick Dempsey will want to do a live-action flick after this?
In third came the comedy, Baby Mama raking in $10.3 million for the weekend and giving the 2-week cumulation of $33.2 million. Forgetting Sarah Marshall came in 4th this weekend making $6.1 million with a three week total of $44.8 million.
