Cubans are now starting to be assimilated to modern times, they can use cellphones. YAY!
Friday a statement was given by “President” Raul Castro (more like dictator…) telling Cubans he would allow them the use of a cellphone… finally.
Until now the high-end technology was only used as a luxury to the extreme wealthy and powerful government officials. Very few average Cubans could get cellphones, but some doors have opened now.
But just because they are allowed to have them, doesn’t mean they can afford them. Under Cuba’s government, a typical working-class citizen makes a meer 408 pesos($20 U.S.) a month. Rediculous, I know. So now that the Empresa de Telecomunicaciones de Cuba S.A., Cuba’s telecommunication monopoly, has given the right to use cellphone service, no one will have enough to purchase the plan.
It kind of seems like they are trying to bedazzle the world with a cellphone stunt and avoiding other issues like happy citizens. I’m probably just making that up in my head though.
